Angel Rocks & Chena Hot Spring Trail (Part 2) and Granite Tors Campground (July 5th & 6th)

Anticlea elegans (Mountain Death Camas).

Here is the second bunch of our hike at the Angel Rocks and Chena Hot Spring Trail.
We stayed at Granite Tors Campground after the hike and we saw 2 peregrine falcons there.
We found a kingfisher by the river the next day, too.

Campanula lasiocarpa (Mountain Harebell or Alaska Harebell).

Minuartia macrocarpa (Longpod Stichwort).

We found a shiny golden mushroom.

I wonder what kind of dragonfly this is.

Bupleurum americanum (American Thorow Wax).

Anticlea elegans (Mountain Death Camas).

There were some different flowers blooming at the end of the ridge.
From this rock, the trail descends.

 Tofieldia coccinea (Northern False Asphodel).
The flowers have finished.

Lupinus arcticus ssp. arcticus (Arctic Lupine).
We found quite a few plants on the ridge,
but most of them were done.

The shelter on the trail.
From this place, it is about 3 miles to the hot spring.

We took the Hillside Cutoff Trail.
The trail was pretty wet and we had to walk on the swamp sometimes.

Falco peregrinus (Peregrine Falcon)
was looking down on us at the Granite Tors Campground.

We found another one the next morning at Granite Tors Campground.

Megaceryle alcyon (Belted Kingfisher).
When we were fishing in the river, I saw a kingfisher.
It was pretty far from me, so the pictures are really blur.

Megaceryle alcyon (Belted Kingfisher).

We tried to fish on the pond on Chena Hot Spring Road.
I caught a small grayling
and my partner caught a small rainbow trout.
We both let them go.

Angel Rocks & Chena Hot Spring Trail (Part 1) (July 5th)

 Castilleja hyperborea (Northern Indian Paintbrush)
on the ridge between Angel Rocks and Chena Hot Spring.

We hiked the trail from Angel Rocks to Chena Hot Spring for the first time.
Once you get to the ridge, the trail continues on the pretty flat ridge for a while.
There was not so much variety of wildflowers on this trail, but it might have been a little late for the prime season for the flowers there.

A young moose was walking in the Chena River.

Aconitum delphiniifolium
(Larkspurleaf Monkshood or Northern Monkshood).
