Fairies in the Woods (May 16th & 21st)

Calypso bulbosa var. americana (Fairy Slipper).
We found a spot where Calypso bulbosa var. americana (Fairy Slipper) flowers grow here in Fairbanks last week.  They had buds last week, so we went back to the spot to check them out yesterday and they were already blooming!  Isn't it amazing?  They bloom so quickly.  It took only less than a week for the tight buds to bloom.
We saw first wild violets in Fairbanks at the same spot, too!  I wonder how many kinds of violets we will be able to find here in the Fairbanks area this year.

From here, the pictures were taken on May 16th.

A kind of junco was chirping in the tree.

Lingonberry flowers were blooming.

From here, the pictures were taken on May 21st.

A squirrel was hiding in the hole in the birch tree.

OMG.....so many of them were blooming!

The burgundy stripe pattern looks like a kind of shrimp, too.

The leaves are more flat than the ones we found in Japan.

They have pretty small flowers.
